SÁTIRA – MINIMALANIMAL
Design consultant and art direction, 1999-2004
In his capacity as a permanent design consultant to Sátira, Pedro Sottomayor developed and provided the art direction for the Minimalanimal international project. Minimalanimal brought together an illustrious group of designers and architects*, including Álvaro Siza, Eduardo Souto de Moura and Pedro himself.
Each participant designed a white ceramic piece under the concept Minimalanimal, a made-up term. The project was showcased at major design events, such as Salone del Mobile in Milan and Maison&Objet in Paris, and met with enthusiastic international acclaim, featuring, for instance, on the cover of Domus magazine. MINIMALANIMAL is now part of the permanent collection at MUDE (Lisbon’s Design and Fashion Museum).
About Sátira: the company was founded in 1996 in Porto by a group of seven of the leading industrial companies and creatives in the area, and became a benchmark firm in Portugal’s furniture market, representing major international design brands.
The year 1999 marked the opening of Sátira’s production and design department with the goal of developing their own products, headed by Pedro Sottomayor. Unfortunately the company ended its global operations in 2006, when MINIMALANIMAL was a striving project.
